WE RIDE THE DARK
BUT HOW CAN I STAY VISIBLE IN TRAFFIC?

The days are getting shorter and it's getting dark faster now that the clock has been turned back. During drizzly afternoons visibility in traffic also decreases. Paying attention when cycling to work has never been more important. Using the right type of clothing and accessories increases your safety. But which clothing suits which weather condition? You can read all about it in this blog.

THE SOLUTION

Getting noticed in the dark, that's what it's all about. With the arrival of electric bicycles and speed pedelecs, the average speed on cycling lanes has almost doubled. A functioning bicycle light no longer seems sufficient to stand out. For the safety and comfort of the commuter, we have therefore designed the Commuter Collection.

The secret of our collection is the Hi-vis neon yellow colour. This colour absorbs energy from the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum, making it appear as if the clothing is glowing. This makes the color two to three times as bright as other colours. Crucial to really stand out.

We have added reflection mist prints to a part of the collection. Especially for when it's really dark outside. The mist print patterns reflect ambient light such as headlights and street lights, so drivers can no longer ignore you in the dark.

8 VISIBILITY TIPS

1: CYCLING DURING DUSK

This probably sounds familiar; you leave work by bike and only on your way home it is slowly starting to get dark. During dusk, the Compact Hi-vis Commuter raincoat offers a solution. The jacket has Hi-vis neon colours that make you stand out more. This model is also extremely light and can be folded compactly. Ideal to take with you in your bicycle bag or backpack.

2: DURING DUSK AND RAIN

Even when it starts to rain heavily at dusk, the Compact Hi-vis commuter raincoat will keep you going. Thanks to its Poray 10,000 membrane, the jacket is wind and waterproof. In our Commuter line we also have the Winter Commuter Rain Jacket Hi-vis & Reflection. This jacket is equipped with a reflective mist print, which makes you even more visible when it’s raining.

3: WHEN IT'S DARK

Standing out at twilight is important, in darkness it is vital. The Tech Commuter Rain Jacket has fog prints all around. During the day it looks like a black jacket, but when darkness sets and light falls directly on you, you light up from all angles. Add matching Tech Commuter Rain Pants to your jacket and you will stand out even more because your moving legs attract extra attention from other traffic users.

4: IN DARKNESS AND RAIN

Once it's dark and it starts to rain, you probably want to go home as soon as possible. At those moments you want a jacket that is not only wind and waterproof, but is also clearly visible and breathes well. We have packed these four characteristics in the Tech Commuter Rain Jacket Hi-vis & Reflection. The perfect jacket for a high-speed commuter.

5: WEAR A NEON HELMET

It may not be mandatory in the United Kingdom yet, but more and more cyclists are wearing helmets today. When it is light outside it doesn’t really matter which type you choose, but especially at dusk and in the dark you want to wear a helmet that will be noticed. You’d better use the Cit-E Led Helmet. This helmet is not only available in neon, it is also equipped with an LED rear light. Win-win for the commuter.

6: USING HI-VIS ACCESSORIES

Apart from basic clothing, it is good to invest in striking accessories. Moving parts such as hands and feet stand out when you cycle. Our Tech Hi-vis gloves come in handy when you are using your hands for direction indications. In addition, waterproof overshoes are indispensable if you want to stay dry. It doesn't matter whether you go for the tight-fit Tech Hi-vis Bike Boots or the slightly loose-fit Essential Reflection Bike Boots. Both overshoes are available in neon colours and come with reflective details.

7: USING NEON BIKE BAGS

When you cycle to work or to school, you take all kinds of things with you. Your laptop, books, lunch, and possibly an extra set of clothes if you are already wearing cycling clothes. The Clean Shelter single bike bag, with a capacity of 21 liters, is available in neon colour and has reflective elements on both sides. Standing out has never been so practical.

8: USING BUILT-IN LIGHTING

Despite being the safest options, we can imagine that neon or fog prints are not to everyone's taste. For those cyclists we have created products with built-in lighting. For example, the Cit-E Led Helmet that we mentioned earlier, but also the 'state of the art' Heated Thermal Jacket Essential LED. This jacket is equipped with LED lighting on the back. In addition, the thermal jacket has built-in heat panels that produce extra heat at the push of a button. Comfort and safety go hand in hand.
