WE RIDE THE RAIN,
BUT HOW DO I KEEP MYSELF DRY?

It's nice to get on your bike when the sun is shining, when it's dry outside and you go out without a coat. Unfortunately, weather conditions can be more challenging than that. Still, you want to cycle to work, study, go shopping or just enjoy the city. So there is only one thing to do: dress well to stay dry and comfortable on your bike. And we would like to help you.

In this blog, we share a few cycling rainwear tips aimed at keeping you dry, warm and safe, on the bike. And preferably doing it all in style. Because we understand that no matter how effective it is, a purely functional rain suit is not always the most flattering garment out there. We wouldn't be AGU if we didn't look beyond the effectiveness of a product. The design is just as important to us.

THE SOLUTION

Oftentimes, you won't consider a rain coat untill it rains, and you really need one. So what do you do, you buy a really waterproof jacket and you think: Bring on the rain. You get on your bike in good spirits. Hood on, jacket zipped up tight. And yes, that jacket is really waterproof, you stay dry. At least, the part under your coat stays dry. But your trousers? Your hands? And...no, wet shoes and socks. When you arrive at your destination, the first thing to do is to look for a heater or maybe there's a hairdryer in the toilet somewhere. Optimal? No. Can we fix that? Yes we can! A waterproof jacket is absolutely a good basis, but if you really want to arrive dry, it requires a little more attention.

7 WAYS TO STAY DRY

1: DRY BODY

To start with: you need to keep your upper body warm and dry, and as we just said, a good jacket is the basis for that - one that keeps you dry but also protects you from wind and cold. The Winter Rain Anorak is one of our favorites. A large zip on the side makes it easy to put it on and take it off. And the longer back allows you to sit on the jacket, but still have good mobility on the bike. And of course, the hood has a drawstring to prevent it from blowing off your head.

If you cycle regularly in the dark, we recommend the Winter Rain Jacket Commuter. Not only water- and windproof and warm, but thanks to the reflection and Hi-Vis Neon surfaces, also very visible.

2: DRY LEGS

But just a good jacket won't get you to your destination completely dry. You need comfortable, stylish and above all practical trousers. The Section Rain Pants are 100% water- and windproof, and thanks to a minimalistic and stylish design, you'll hardly notice you're wearing them. For optimal visibility, we recommend the Tech Rain Pants Commuter. Matching the above-mentioned rain jacket.

3: FULL BODY WITH STYLE

And then we have the option: Fullbody. In other words, a long jacket that keeps your upper body and legs dry. Take the unisex Packable Parka or the City Slicker. The effectiveness of a rain suit, the design of a nice and fashionable parka. Both models are made from 100% recycled materials and the breathable Poray material makes the jackets wind and water-resistant. Even when it's not raining, you like to wear them.

4: NON PLUS ULTRA IN KEEPING DRY

A cool jumpsuit that keeps you dry from head to toe? Our Premium Suit Commuter is easy to put on over your clothes and jacket and is specially designed for e-bikes and speed pedelecs. Made from 3-layer Poray 10,000, which means the suit is truly wind -and waterproof and doesn't stick to you, but just feels like a shirt. Perfect for getting dry, safe, and even a bit futuristic on the road. A kind of drysuit, but for cycling.

5: DRY HANDS ARE WARM HANDS

If your hands are wet and cold, the rest of your body will not warm up as well. How nice it is to keep your hands dry and warm in the rain, you only realise once you have experienced it. Good gloves also provide extra grip and protection when cycling. The Commuter Hi-Vis gloves are the right choice. In addition, your hands are in motion when you're on the bike, for example when you put your hand out. Extra reflection at this point is no luxury.

Or choose the water- and windproof Neoprene Gloves, developed by the top cyclists of Team Jumbo Visma.

6: NO MORE WET FEET

Nothing as annoying as wet socks, soaking in your shoes. Especially when it's cold outside. Fortunately, we have found a solution: the Quick Bike Boots. As the name suggests, these overshoes can be easily and quickly put on over any normal shoe. Feet are in constant motion when cycling, and anything that moves and has reflective stripes gets noticed. The Commuter Hi-Vis overshoe is a highly recommended option.

7: KEEP YOUR HEAD DRY

Last but not least, the hood is a bit of a lock on waterproofing. Thanks to the hood, no water will run down your neck and into your jacket. All our hoods are adjustable, so you have a good view around you, even when you're wearing a hood.

STAY DRY, STAY HAPPY

We know, rain is not always pleasant, but it should not be a reason not to ride your bike. As long as you can keep yourself and your gear dry, cycling in the rain is great. Reward yourself by investing in the right equipment and you'll be on the road whistling every day.
