The AGU bicycle helmet guide
A bicycle helmet reduces the risk of head injury in an accident by up to 80%. Yet, many cyclists still choose to ride without a helmet. It’s often said that helmets are uncomfortable or don’t look good. That can change! In our collection, you’ll find a variety of helmets, with a perfect match for everyone. In this blog, we’ll help you choose the right helmet. Safe, stylish, and ready for every ride.
How do I choose the right bike helmet?
Safety Standards: The bicycle helmet must comply with the applicable safety standards. All AGU helmets meet the EN1078 certification.
Aerodynamics: Helmets with optimized airflow reduce air resistance and improve speed. Thanks to advanced technologies and wind tunnel testing, these helmets not only offer protection but also enhance speed.
Ventilation: When choosing a helmet, it’s important to consider the ventilation openings. Proper ventilation promotes airflow around your head, keeping you cool.
Additional Features: Some helmets come with extra features. Think of built-in lighting for night rides, an adjustable visor, or reflective strips.

Different techniques

In-mould
The in-mould technique is a method in which the outer shell and inner shell of a bicycle helmet are seamlessly fused together. This ensures a safe, sturdy, and durable helmet.

MIPS
MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) protects your head during a fall by absorbing rotational forces. The special (yellow) layer between the outer shell and the padding moves along, reducing the impact on your brain.

Direct-Dial-systeem
The Direct-Dial system is a dial mechanism located at the back of the bicycle helmet, allowing you to quickly and accurately adjust the fit.
How do I adjust my bicycle helmet?
Adjusting your bicycle helmet is simple and essential. Follow these three steps:
Step 1 – Put the helmet on your head Place the helmet straight on your head, just above your eyebrows. Make sure it sits horizontally and doesn’t tilt too far forward or backward.
Step 2 – Turn the dial Use the dial at the back of the helmet to adjust the fit. Turn it until the helmet feels snug but still comfortable. Note: a tight fit is good, but don’t overdo it, as your head might expand slightly during cycling.
Step 3 – Adjust the straps Ensure the straps form a triangle around your ears, leaving them free. Fasten the buckle under your chin and leave about one finger's width of space between the straps and your jaw.

Find your ideal bicycle helmet
The right helmet makes every ride safer and more comfortable. Which helmet suits you best depends on how and where you ride. For sporty riders, a lightweight, aerodynamic helmet with good ventilation is essential. Do you cycle daily in the city or use an e-bike? Then opt for a practical helmet with smart features, such as an integrated rear light for extra visibility.
Performance cycling helmets

Urban bicycle helmets
For daily use, such as on a city bike, e-bike, or speed pedelec, a helmet with a more casual appearance is often preferred. These helmets combine style with practical features like reflective details and integrated LED lighting.

Useful tips for your bike helmet
How often should I replace my bicycle helmet?
Replace your bicycle helmet every five to six years, even if it still looks good. Over time, the materials lose their protective properties.
What should I do after an accident?
A helmet should be replaced immediately after an accident. Even if there is no visible damage, the protective function may be compromised, which could put your safety at risk.
Where is the best place to store my helmet?
Always store your helmet away from heat sources, such as radiators, to prevent damage to the coating. This will help preserve the quality of the helmet.
Does AGU also offer helmets for children?
Yes, AGU offers special helmets for children that ensure proper protection and comfort.
