Make every ride comfortable with an AGU chamois
The search for cycling shorts with the right chamois can be quite tricky. There are many different trousers and chamois available. From expensive to budget options, what are the differences and what should you look out for? To get you started, in this blog we explain the differences between chamois.
The first chamois
In 1989, AGU was the first company in the world to make a chamois out of artificial leather. A fabric used only in luxury cars until then. The chamois came out under the name Nalini and was the result of many tests and innovations. A process we are still working on today. In the context of innovations, AGU released the first chamois incorporating carbon fibres in 2011. This chamois excelled not only in pressure distribution and breathability, but also in its antibacterial properties.

Five types of chamois
Many riders choose an AGU chamois for its comfort and technical appearance. There are now five AGU chamois used in the (bib)shorts. The Core Blue Pad, Comfort 3 layer Ruby Pad, Platinum Grey Combi Pad, Golden 5 layer Contour Pad and Gravel Greige Pad.

Core Blue Pad
Comfort and protection for shorter rides
The Core Blue Pad is the entry-level chamois. Perfect for shorter distances on all kinds of terrain.
The skyve foam in the central area ensures a good fit and extra comfort. Thanks to the combination of high-impact foams, the pad offers excellent shock absorption and protection. With its excellent value for money, this chamois is the perfect choice for both novice and avid cyclists.

Comfort 3 layer Ruby Pad
Optimal performance for (medium) long rides
This advanced pad is specially designed for cyclists who ride (medium-)long distances, offering optimal performance and comfort on rides of 6 hours or longer.
The ribbed foam provides firm support and absorbs shocks, keeping you comfortable. Thanks to skyve technology, the pad is thinner and ergonomically shaped, preventing friction while pedalling. The carbon fabric keeps you cool, dry and fresh, even on hot days.

Platinum Grey Combi Pad
For dedicated cyclists driven by performance
For cyclists striving for top performance, this advanced chamois offers ultimate comfort and support. Specially developed for long endurance rides and extreme road conditions up to 8 hours.
Thanks to the innovative Hybrid Cell System, the chamois features the best shock absorption. The chamois is thin, light and highly breathable, allowing you to enjoy maximum freedom of movement and long-lasting comfort. The top layer is made of CoolCube material, which prevents irritation and quickly wicks away perspiration. This keeps your skin fresh and dry.
The Platinum Grey Combi Pad is used in Enduro Plus Performance for men and women and High Summer cycling shorts.

Golden 5 layer Contour Pad
Designed for elite sports, accessible to all.
Hit the road like a true professional and get the most out of yourself with our best chamois. Perfectly designed for long endurance rides and extreme conditions for up to 8 hours.
The fit of the chamois follows the lines of your body in cycling position, allowing it to adapt optimally to your body and stay firmly in place. This reduces friction and reduces the risk of saddle sores. The breathable, stretchy fabric keeps you cool and dry, while the combination of soft memory foam and firm foam provides excellent shock absorption and comfort.
You will find the Golden 5 layer Contour Pad in the Aero, Breakaway and Compression Performance Bibshorts.

Gravel Greige Pad
These shorts are perfect for adventure cyclists, from gravel routes to bikepacking.
The new Gravel chamois in the Venture Bibshorts for men and women offers comfort on any terrain. Bumpy roads are no problem thanks to the excellent cushioning, which is between that of a race and MTB chamois. The gravel chamois is ideal for long rides in tough conditions, even up to 8 hours.
It combines perforated foam with the advanced T-Novib 2.5 foam, which has unique anti-vibration properties. This ensures maximum comfort, reduces vibration and absorbs shock.

Additional tips for cycling shorts
For the perfect fit and compression, the (bib)short should be tight so that pressure from the muscles is absorbed. The chamois should fall in the right place when you sit on the saddle. Preferably try cycling shorts in cycling position to test if this is the case.
As with all AGU cycling shorts, the (bib)shorts should have as few seams as possible. This prevents friction and pressure points.
To make sure you can enjoy your (bib)shorts for a long time, it is important to take proper care of them. Carefully follow the washing instructions on the washing label inside the shorts. Wash your cycling clothes with the correct programme and use a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softener as this can affect the elasticity of the cycling shorts.
